Our board of directors are animal loving, community minded handpicked individuals who work together in harmony with our mission to help our most vulnerable populations and those with pets in need.
Our History
Big Dog Charitable Foundation was founded in 2013, just months before tragedy struck the community when the Yarnell Hill Fire killed 19 members of the
Granite Mountain Hotshots.
Ann Herrington, founder of BDCF sought ways she could help in a dark time, and her focus went to the displaced animals. Residents' homes had burned, and they were struggling to find a place to go with their animals, others had lost everything and couldn’t afford vet bills. Ann quickly put together the "Walk for Yarnell Animals" to raise funds for those in need. It was Big Dog Charitable Foundation’s first event. The foundation officially received nonprofit status in July 2014, now serving Pima County, Arizona & Yavapai County, Arizona
Our Mission
BDCF is dedicated to building the human/animal bond
- Raising awareness of shelter and rescue animals
- Educating the public in responsible pet ownership
- Providing a voice for shelter & rescue animals & the local organizations who care for them
- Host mega adoption events to help rescue & shelter dogs find their forever homes
- Help low-income pet parents obtain veterinary and other pet-related services in times of need.
- Provide relief for pets and their families during natural disasters
- Raising funds for Police K9, Emotional Support/Facility dogs.
